It's been a long time

I have been really overwhelmed with a lot of extra responsibility and I wanted to say sorry for not posting any projects lately. I haven't created anything in a long time except a mess at the house. I'm on summer break now and I'm hoping to get some creative juices flowing. I hope to have something up next week. Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Embellished Boy Shirt

I embellished this little boy shirt for a friend. I really like how it turned out. I think I saw an idea like this at Make it and Love it. I just took fabric from old T-shirts and cut out what I wanted to use. Then, I sewed it all on where I wanted it. How cute!

Another cabinet door project

When we decided to get new kitchen cabinets I decided to keep a lot of the old doors b/c I just knew they would come in handy for something. We tried giving all the cabinets away but the gentleman didn't want all of them, so I took the doors.

The door was already white so all I did was paint the inside with chalkboard paint, stamp some pretty red paint around the edge, and attach two hooks to hang keys and stuff. I took off all the hardware so it wouldn't look like a cabinet door hanging on the wall. I usually like the old, rustic, re purpose look but not for this project. What do you think?

Playroom Fun

Here are a few of the fun touches I added to the playroom. I wanted to go all girly but my son might not appreciate that too much when he gets a little older, so I tried to be more neutral.

The sign on the door is an old kitchen cabinet door I had. I painted the inside with chalkboard paint and the trim yellow. I added some fabric for the hanger.

I took some strips of fabric and wrapped it around simple baskets for a cute touch.

I had these festive balls from my very first year teaching, and I don't use them at school anymore so I put them to use at my house.

My favorite part is the wording on the wall. I covered big paper mache letters with cute paper and painted with matching colors around it.

My daughter had these pants that fit her in waist but not length. They were about two inches too short. Well, she doesn't have many spring and summer clothes, and we have cut our spending budget a lot. I have gone through her closet many times trying to find pieces that I can refurbish. Pieces that I wouldn't get much for at the consignment sale. All I had to do was measure her from the waist to her knee, cut straight across, turn under twice, press it, then sew all the way around. This was about a 10 minute project.
I don't like to waste anything, so I took the left over pieces and made cute flowers to pin on one of her shirts. I'm not sewing them on the shirt for two reasons. . . the flowers won't hold up in the wash and it's an easy way to have two shirts in one ;) All I did was cut out 3 imperfect circles, folded them in half and half again, stuck a needle through the pointed ends and tightened them by going through the pieces several more times. It was really easy! I'm not claiming any of these ideas as my own because I'm sure they came from somewhere just not sure where. My mama made it always inspires me and I do love the embellishments she comes up with.

From Sweater to Pillow

This was a very easy project. My friend from Happily Home gave me the idea when she heard that I had extra material left from an old sweater. I just measured it to the size I needed. Then sewed right sides together, leaving an opening for the pillow form, and viola!

Sweater Leggings was the project I started with the sweater.
